55 or older

There are some basic benefit programs you may want to consider based on your household circumstance:

  1. For food assistance check out SNAP or Local Food Pantries
  2. Energy assistance can be provided through LIHEAP
  3. Cash/Vendor payments may be made through General Assistance (if you have no children under 18)
  4. Cash help if you have related children under 18 in the home TANF

If you are a person 55 and older, besides some of the regular employment services available through Illinois WorkNet and the IDES, you may be able to participate in the Senior Service Community Employment Program (if you are age 55 and older) if you are trying to re-enter the workforce and are low income.

There is also a special Senior Job Bank/Workforce 50 that can help you find work if you are age 50 and older.

Another rich resource for employment opportunities is through the Corporation for National and Community Service which can help you connect to programs such as AmeriCorps or Senior Corps.
