Veterans Assistance Commission

If you are military veteran who is honorably discharged, you may be able to receive emergency, or temporary help to meet a life crisis, such as inability to pay rent, utilities, or need emergency medication. 

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible for a Veteran’s Assistance if you are:

  • a veteran
  • a veteran’s dependent
  • a surviving spouse, child or dependent parent of a deceased veteran
  • an active duty military service member
  • a member of the Reserve or National Guard

Help Provided

The Veterans Assistance Commission is operated by area veteran’s service organizations and can help provide you assistance with claims to the Veterans Administration for such benefits as:

  • Service Connected Compensation
  • GI Home Loans
  • Educational Benefits
  • Pension Benefits

The VAC can also help you with claims for

  • Employment
  • Public Aid
  • Food Stamps
  • Social Security
  • Hospitalization
  • Counseling

The Veterans Assistance Commission also can provide the following services (the benefit and amount of benefit will vary by area, so call your VAC to find out exactly what services they provide): help with payments toward the basics of life; such as shelter, utilities, food, etc.
