I lost my job due to my company relocating to another country

Sometimes a job ends because the business relocates outside the United States.  For workers who lost jobs because of this, there are some special resources available. For a list of companies where petitions have been field under the Trade Adjustment Act (TAA), you can check out the IDES website.

Some of the services available include:

  • Reemployment Services which offers workers assistance in finding a new job including job retraining and identifying appropriate training programs.
  • Job Search Allowances may be payable to cover expenses incurred in seeking employment outside the normal commuting area.  Job search allowances reimburse 90% of the total costs of allowable travel and subsistence, up to a total of $1,250.
  • Relocation Allowances which can reimburse approved expenses when certified workers must move to a new area of employment outside their normal commuting area. Relocation allowances may include:
    • 90% of the reasonable and necessary expenses of moving
    • A lump sum payment equal to three times the worker's average weekly wage (but no more than $1,250) to help them get settled.
  • Income Support - Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA) to help while participating in full time training.
