Legal Assistance

Legal Services are available from many different organizations. Some provide free or low-cost services, so please be sure to ask if there is a fee. Navigating the legal system is complex.

If you are not sure where to find legal assistance you can check out Illinois Legal Aid. Here you can enter information about the type of problem you have and where you live and find local legal resources.

Federally funded legal aid programs

Check out the websites to see if you are eligible to receive help from a legal aid program. Eligibility is often limited by amount of your income, and the type of case you have such as legal matters that impact your ability to meet basic human needs for protection from violence and abuse, access to medical assistance, subsistence income, or access to decent affordable housing.

Many area bar associations, law schools and many other programs provide free legal help. Check out the American Bar Association’s Directory of Pro-Bono Programs in Illinois.
